Allen Hunt

Dr. Allen Hunt is a nationally known speaker and bestselling author. His books include Confessions of a Mega-Church Pastor: How I Discovered the Hidden Treasures of the Catholic Church, Everybody Needs to Forgive Somebody, and Nine Words: A Bible Study to Help You Become the Best-Version-of-Yourself.

Dr. Hunt stepped aside July 1, 2007, as Senior Pastor at Mount Pisgah, a congregation serving more than 15,000 people each week through all of its ministries in Alpharetta, Georgia, outside Atlanta. While there, Dr. Hunt helped to develop comprehensive ministries with children and students as well as a Christian School with more than 1200 students, a Beacon of Hope pregnancy resource center, and the Summit Counseling Center.

On January 6, 2008, the Feast of the Epiphany, Dr. Hunt converted to Catholicism. This transition represented the culmination of a 15-year journey in which God began leading Dr. Hunt home to the Church. In many ways, this transition was effected by the prayers of a group of Dominican sisters at the Monastery of Our Lady of Grace in North Guilford, Connecticut, who have been praying for Dr. Hunt since he shared lectures with them during Lent in 1992.

Prior to full-time ministry, Dr. Hunt worked in management consulting with Kurt Salmon Associates, an international leader in the textile, apparel, and retail industries. Allen was educated at Mercer (bachelor of business administration) and Emory (master of divinity) Universities, before earning a doctorate in New Testament and Ancient Christian Origins from Yale University.

Dr. Hunt and his wife, Anita, live in Atlanta. They have two grown daughters.

  • LEGS model:
    • Love all you can

  • Dr. Allen Hunt talks about two secrets for marriage:
    • The secret of purpose says that each individual in a marriage helps the other become a better version of themselves.
    • The secret of little things says that for every 1 negative interaction, a relationship needs to see 5 positive ones.
      • Some actions are verbal, but most are nonverbal.
      • These little interactions ARE your marriage.
  • High performing teams have a negative to positive interaction ratio of 1:5
  • Medium performing teams, 1:3
  • Low performing teams have more negative interactions than positive ones.
  • Negativity is much more contagious than positivity, and it’s much harder to unlearn.
  • Being positive is important.
  • What we put in is what we’ll get out.

Dr. Allen Hunt’s Recharge Round

  1. What habit do you think has lead to success in your life? Allen has daily prayer time first thing in the morning. He takes silence in the presence of God.
  2. What’s the simple positive action that you take each day to move forward to achieve your goals? Allen is a list maker. He sketches out his year, his month, and his week. He has a list of what to do each day that he organizes the day before.
  3. What’s your biggest life lesson and what have you learned from it? The more life he gives away, the more life he has. When he focuses on himself, it’s less satisfying than giving himself away.
