- Josh got his Master’s degree in school counseling.
- He used to coach some college football.
- Josh’s Master’s degree taught him how to identify kids, but not how to support and help them.
- He had a paradigm shift from “what’s wrong with these kids” to “what happened to these kids?”
- The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study is the largest longitudinal study of all time.
- It correlates the amounts of traumas and their outcomes later in life.
- 1 in 8 kids are at high risk which means they have had 4 or more adverse childhood experiences in their life.
- It is important to teach educators and help them understand how trauma affects kids.
- Relationships help kids be successful.
- People are resilient.

- Help people get on the other side of their trauma.

- Regulate. Relate. Reason.
- First you have to help someone calm down. You can’t skip straight to reason.
- Next, when you relate with someone you listen to them and don’t shut them off.
- Lastly, reasoning is when you break it all down.
- Did anything trigger you before?
- Who did you harm?
- How do we fix that?
- It is easy to get frustrated with kids, but if we start to understand and see them for who they are, we can make a big impact.
- What the kid’s unmet need? You see their truth.
- Don’t be afraid to get professional help.
- Over 50% of Americans will experience trauma in their lifetime.
- Talk therapy isn’t always the best solution.
- Find a therapist who is trained in working with PTSD and trauma;
